Meat Free Monday One day a week can make a world of difference

If you’re looking for evidence of the impact Meat Free Monday is having the length and breadth of Britain, look no further than the market stalls of Sidmouth in Devon.

The pretty seaside town holds a community market every month, and plans to show its support for the MFM campaign tomorrow (Saturday 16 January) by going completely meat-free.

The market takes place from 10am-12.30pm, in St John Ambulance Hall, Blackmore Drive off the High Street. Shoppers can expect to find their usual organic fruit and veg, cakes, chocolates, cheese and crafts, but will also be able to sample the delights of a vegetarian food stall, tuck into meat-free freebies, pick up vegetarian recipes and get information on the benefits of a meat-free lifestyle.

The market’s organisers and MFM backers, Vision Group for Sidmouth, hope to raise awareness of the effect that the livestock industry and industrial meat production is having on the environment, adding:  “Going meat-free one day a week is an easy step we can all take to reduce our carbon footprint – and it’s good for your health, too.”
