The family-run business, a supporter of Meat Free Monday, makes multi award-winning pies in Bristol which are available nationwide in its own restaurants and cafes, music festivals, food markets, selected London pubs, selected supermarkets including Waitrose and Wholefoods, and online through Ocado.
“We want to change peoples’ perceptions of what a great British pie should be and encourage pie-eaters everywhere to give vegetarian pies a try,” said Jon Simon, who founded Pieminister with his brother-in-law Tristan Hogg. “We are using British Pie Week to launch a brand new addition to our vegetarian pie range and to launch the Meat Free Monday campaign in our restaurants, where our vegetarian pies will be 50p off every Monday.”
The competition to submit a meat-free pie recipe is open now at until midnight on Sunday, 7 February. Tried and tested recipes, with full ingredients lists and method are not essential. Instead, Jon and Tristan are looking for inspirational ideas for a meat free pie filling which their chefs can transform into a Pieminister Classic pie, encased in their two signature pastries.
As well as seeing their pie recipe on Pieminister menus, the creator of the winning recipe will be invited to Bristol for a ‘VIPie’ day at Pieminister HQ. The visit will include the chance to bake and officially name the first batch of the winning pie, design a mock-up of the new pie box, enjoy a pie feast with Jon and Tristan with more prize details to be announced shortly. A baker’s dozen shortlist of 13 finalists will also be awarded a selection box of 12 Pieminister pies.
