The annual festival took place on Monday 5 May and this year the entire crew went meat free, serving up 700 lunches and 800 dinners – all vegetarian.
The Liberation Festival organisers felt that the campaign was in line with the ethos of the festival and its sustainability policies. “We think of the environment when we choose our way of transportation, when we separate our waste and when we use renewable energy,” said festival director Esther Lubberding.
In addition, the team ‘greened’ the festival through sustainability training for staff and volunteers, and the use of PLA cups (made of corn), organic food and drinks, energy-efficient lighting and non-flush toilets (using biodegradable fluid).
