Created by Keir Crawley, Head of Performing Arts at Preston Manor All-Through Co-operative Trust School, this is an exciting four-lesson unit which aims to develop Year 6 and 7 students’ understanding of rhythm, ostinato and syncopation using Samba – and all within the context of Meat Free Monday. The unit explores the basic patterns found in Samba music and develops them using items found in a typical kitchen: sieves, whisks, baking trays, dustbins, cutlery and blenders!
‘Meat Free Monday: The Kitchen Samba’ has links to the new Ofsted framework, including the Hinterland Curriculum and Cultural Capital. It can be delivered in a music room, in a non-specialist classroom or remotely as needed.
